Hola soy Anya!

Hi I´m Anya!

I´m Mexican, a graduate in International Relations and studying for a master’s degree in Population and Development, interested in migration. I am also the Mormonas Feministas co-founder, an activist, daughter and granddaughter of exceptional women and always interested in politics. I was baptized 14 years ago, a decision that changed my life. I´ve always thought that I´m loved by our mother and father in heaven. I’m really blessed and hope everyone can feel all the love that comes from them. Jesus is my example of love and my greatest inspiration.

When the female missionaries taught me, I literally felt that heavens doors were opened and I embraced the gospel with all my heart. One of the things that I really like about our church is that we have continuous revelation, so we won´t walk in darkness without knowing which path is the correct path.

After some time in the Church and from experiencing a lot of situations, I found that my church, mi shelter, where I have kept my heart and faith, was treating women and men differently. Women experienced hurt, and in some occasions these situations contributed to their decision to leave the Church. I, too, experienced this hurt and suffered a lot. I couldn’t find peace so I decided to take some time away from the Church. I am still looking for a way to come back to what I consider home. I still want the Church to be my home.

If women were ordained, gender roles that are strongly defined at church could be more flexible. We could use the feminine majority (at least in Mexico). Houses lead by women could find priesthood comfort and security in every moment. There would be no need to make phone calls and wait to be attended to. There are a lot of hands, hearts and minds ready to serve.

I wish that when it gets to be my turn to be face to face with our Savior, I could tell him with a smile and tears that I did whatever I could to build a fair world. I can´t imagine telling him, lowering my head, that I didn´t look over my sisters and brothers. It is my desire that women and men get to have the same options. I wish with all my heart that our prophet keeps asking if women can exercise the priesthood in our times. I believe women should be ordained.
