“Dad, why can’t I give you a blessing?” This question from our 5 year old daughter, coinciding with the 2013 news that for the first time ever a non-priesthood holder gave a general conference prayer, woke us up to the gender inequality within the church. We have always considered ourselves very liberal minded members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. We have long been vocal advocates for LGBT rights even though we don’t have any close LGBT friends. However, for some reason we were totally blinded to the systemic withholding of future spiritual rights from the very people we consider our closest friends: our three young daughters. Now that the blinders are off, we believe women should be ordained!
