I am a 20 year old hippie, vegetarian, artist, book store employee, born-in-the-church Mormon. This church has been a constant through many turbulent years in my life. It’s taught me about myself and the people around me. It’s built my relationship with my Heavenly Father and Heavenly Mother.
My entire life I’ve wondered why I could never hold the priesthood even if I knew more about the doctrine than many of the boys in my ward. This question came to the forefront of my mind when I discovered that Joseph Smith had given the priesthood to women. Saying that “women are too good already, they don’t need it” elevates us to an expectation we cannot fill. I think women should have the priesthood because putting us on a pedestal is still discrimination. I believe women should be ordained.
