As I prepared my five-year-old daughters room, instead of putting pictures of princesses and disney characters on her wall, I wanted to display photos of strong women she could look up to. I printed photos of a female astronaut, a female firefighter, a professional surfer, soccer player, and gymnast. Then I wanted to put up current strong faithful women who leads our church, but struggled to find these women. I ended up putting a picture of the apostles and President Monson and fished out generic photos of a female missionary, unidentified and unknown to my daughter.
I yearn for the time when a woman can sit on the stand and lead a congregation. I know that as a female, I do not lack in an intelligence that would prohibit me from leading the church, or my local congregation.
I want, so dearly, to put up a photo of a female apostle, prophet or bishop and show my daughter that if she wants to do something in the church, other than simply be espoused to a leader, she can lead herself.
In order for us to be able to lead the church, we must be able to hold the priesthood. I believe in prayerful questions and thoughtful answers and I believe this is an appropriate forum to do so. I believe women should be ordained.
