Hi. I’m Lisa, and my husband’s name is Mark. The articles of faith tell us that God’s will is continuously revealed to us and that there are many things that remain to be revealed. Some say that women and the priesthood will never be one of those things because the priesthood inherently belongs to men. There is no church doctrine that says women will never have the priesthood and scripture says otherwise. Deborah clearly held the priesthood in a prior dispensation- in the “fullness of times” this will happen again. 1st Peter 2:9 “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” This is not spoken just to men, but to us all.
Both men and women can nurture. Both men and women can parent. Both men and women can serve others through the priesthood. I am a convert to the church and my husband was recently considering being baptized as well with the intention that we raise our children in the church, but we hesitated because we didn’t want our daughter to grow up in a church that denied her certain opportunities to serve God and others just because of her gender.
The OW movement gave us hope this would change. With recent events, now we realize that we don’t want either our sons or our daughters to be raised in such an environment. The kingdom of God should not be run by fear, but by love. I have a hard time seeing the love in this Church anymore. I know our Heavenly Parents support equality and desire women to hold the priesthood. I believe maybe the Church will get it together one day but that day is not right now. I believe women should be ordained and will one day be ordained. Until then I will follow Christ alone.
