I married a convert to the LDS church. She was a successful professional with a challenging job in an industry she loved. She chose to put professional work on hold when our first child was born. Several years and a gaggle of children later, our youngest has entered kindergarten. As this new chapter in our family opens, my wife is eagerly exploring options for starting a new career in diabetes education. I’m delighted to see her ambition, not least because of the strong example it sets for our children.
Many of the people I love most are active LDS. This includes my sweet wife, my children, my parents, and all my siblings. Gender-typing affects both boys and girls, men and women in negative ways. It disempowers people. I believe in empowering people. For the good people of the LDS faith and especially for my wife and my children, I believe women should be ordained.
