I am a gay Mormon and my support of Ordain Women may seem paradoxical. I’ve been married for 28 years to a great Mormon woman who is faithful and dutiful to the LDS Church. During my lifetime, the LDS Church has progressed remarkably by beginning to understand homosexuality and changing its policies and practices related to it. Similarly, I believe it is time for the Church to progress towards more equality regarding the leadership roles currently found in the male-only priesthood of the Church. Our marriage suffered greatly because my wife and I had tried to adopt old-fashioned, traditional, patriarchal-type roles that did not fit our deeply inborn, God-given attributes: I am a natural nurturer and my wife is a natural leader, easily presiding in many group situations. We now realize, after many years of struggling against these very innate characteristics and talents, that traditions did not have to make us feel there is only one way to be. Like the Book of Mormon admonishes us to do, we should do away with false traditions, and I feel this applies to a male-only priesthood. I believe women should be ordained.
